Motivation makes things happen.
Motivation is what makes us do the things we do – it is the reason behind actions, desire and needs. If we can master motivation, we can deal with life’s setbacks, as well as inspire ourselves to always find a way forward, create new experiences, and continue our personal growth.
There are two basic motivators: our desire to obtain or get something, or the fear of losing something. We all have these two things working inside us, driving us to do something. These motivators cause us to act in certain ways to either get something or to avoid losing something.
We all have different things that we are motivated by. The problem is that generally many of us are not motivated often enough and long enough.
So, how can we increase our motivation?
– Spend time with positive and motivating people – We know that we become like the people we surround ourselves with. Those who are highly motivated will not only have a significant effect on us, but we can also see how they motivate themselves.
– Learn what motivates us – Every person is different; whilst some are motivated by money, others are motivated by helping others. Whatever it is, learn what truly motivates you.
– Learn to set and reach goals – Research has shown that one of the best ways to create motivation is to learn how to set goals and work towards achieving them.
– Use positive affirmations to motivate ourselves – Positive affirmations are statements about ourselves such as, “I set good goals,” “I achieve my goals,” and “I want to learn and succeed.” These types of statements will help to move us from the negative to the positive and help provide the motivation that we need to achieve our set goal/s.
Motivation is an important life skill; it is the defining factor that turns a good thought into immediate action. Motivation to carry out small steps consistently helps us to be the best we can be and achieve success!
